Amita Pavgi Gokhale is a new-generation Hindustani classical vocalist. Born on 24th February 1977, she was brought up in a family with a rich musical legacy which had a significant impact on her passion for music. Amita’s formal training started at the age of 4 with her mother and Guru – well-known music critic and Hindustani classical vocalist – Sou. Shubhada Pavgi. Further, Amita started her advanced music training with Pt. Sharad Sathe, a doyen of Gwalior Gharana. The polished and matured grace and depth in raag that are reflected in Amita's musicianship are the results of her advanced training with Panditji for more than 25 years. Moreover, Padmashree Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar and Padmashree Taalyogi Pt. Suresh Talwalkar also play a vital role as mentors and philosophers in Amita's music career. Along with khyaal-gayan, Amita also performs Thumri, Bhajans, Abhangas with high command.

Amita earned her bachelor's degree from Mulund College of Commerce and a master’s in Fine Arts (Music) from Mumbai University. She also achieved Sangeet Alankar from the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal and received scholarships like the Pt. Bhimsen Joshi and Sajan Milap Scholarships. In her career, she has performed at renowned venues such as NCPA, Swar Jhankaar, and Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, and is an A-graded artist on All India Radio with appearances on Insync TV.

 

In 2002, Amita established “Swaranubhooti Gurukul” with the purpose of passing on the legacy and knowledge of Hindustani classical music she received from her gurus. For the past 23 years, Amita has been imparting Hindustani classical vocal lessons to students from all over the world.
